S/S 2011 Fins, etc.

You all know I don’t wear skirts and dresses. But I might, if I could find any that met my precise needs and wants. More likely they’d end up in the back of my closet, but I’d admire them from there.

My more practical desires are for weather-appropriate onesies. And a bathing suit. I haven’t bought a bathing suit since I was about 17.

S/S 2011 Space

In giving you a see-through plastic jacket, I’m almost certainly moving beyond my tenet of “things I would wear”. I’d have worn it as a teenager, though. In a second. And there’s just something about transluscent plastic clothing that I find extremely pleasing, despite my otherwise severe tastes.  I guess there’s no concealing what decade I grew up in.

The space onesie shirt (in the first drawing) is my favourite item of all. The panels would be slightly different shades of black, arranged together so the ribbing of the jersey was angled in various mis-matched directions for a subtle texture effect.

Hchom S/S 2011

So here is my next round of imaginary clothes that I wish I had ready access to. Perhaps there’s not much actual summer content in there, but I’m not all that wild about summer clothing anyway (and Vancouver doesn’t provide much in the way of hot weather).

“Runway” shots will arrive over the next few days.

Merge

This is just a quick note to say that I’ve axed marianchurchland.com, and brought its remnants over to Hchom (see “Books” and “Bio”). I never updated it with news, and Brandon is much better at caring about that sort of thing anyway, so I’ll just officially leave it to him.

I’ve also revised the About page. Forever sleep, wee goblin titties.

The Crossing

Now back to Goblins, and (more or less) to reality.

The Crossing

Playing The Crossing, I would have to be a simulacrum (as some of you guessed I would).

Not that it’s an easy decision, mind you. I’m writing a book about this world, so I have all sorts of personal attachments to various aspects of all three races. But I’ve classified this one as the one most inclined towards the whole sneaky sneak-thief thing, and that is what cements it for me, as a player of videogames.

The Crossing

Any videogame that I make is, of course, going to have mountains in it. The Crossing, though, is mainly an arrid world. The group of islands and small continents is surrounded by uninhabitable dryness. A fisherman would not be able to steer his boat far from the central regions, without finding the ocean to be barren of life, and the air too hot and dry to breathe.

The Crossing

Playing a big open-world RPG, the main task available to you, of course, is to go out and find things to fight. That is true of playing almost every game, perhaps. One of the things that still seems to define many RPGs (as that becomes increasingly difficult) is the extensive inventory of items that you can collect as you progress. Treasure hunting, in other words.

The Crossing

Today, having described the playable races, I’ll talk about how you can specifically and elaborately customise your character.

Let’s start with the standard, facial customisation.

The Crossing

There are three playable races in The Crossing: humans, gate people, and simulacra. Choosing which race you wish to play as is the first thing you do upon entering the game. So let’s begin.

The Crossing

Let’s all sit down and talk about videogames.

What I’m going to do this week is build one. It won’t be my ideal videogame, exactly. My ideal videogame would be a one-player game, and I’d want to create a world for it all of its own. In this case, I’m going to use the story I’m currently working on as a background, because that makes it a little easier to pull this off.

I’m also going to talk about how I think a multiplayer online RPG should be made (chief goal: please and amuse Marian), because playing Final Fantasy XIV last fall was really great in terms of re-connecting with people I knew from seven or eight years ago, but ultimately pretty dull in terms of personal entertainment (in fairness I trust that the game will eventually be fixed up nicely, but I didn’t have the patience and fortitude to hang around until then).

Loff Scarf

You remember the scarf on my want list? Sachi, my nernie since the days of yore, actually ordered it for me as a surprise gift. You guys should all know about Sachi. She’s an absurdly good poet. This is her book, much extolled. But I knew her back when she was an unknown fancy entity, and that makes me fancy too. BNE!

The goblin will model it for us (also wearing this Yoshi Kondo coat that I see in the Lark window every day [in the same range as the jacket I drew here. It’s that mysterious shade of rose-taupe that really makes it stand out, and I still want it with the burning passion of a thousand exploding suns]).

2011, so far

This a perfect muffin, if ever there was one. Look at its split flanks, all golden and seedy.

This is probably the closest I’m ever going to come to that ideal seedcake of legend. You know the seedcake in The Hobbit, that Bilbo is forced to share with the Dwarves? I’m obsessed with it. I think about it almost daily. Fuck a dragon, it’s all about the seedcake! There’s a good seedcake scene in Jane Eyre, too. It’s a thing, I’m telling you. Literary seedcake. And this muffin is pretty much there.

2010, so far

Happy New Year(‘s Eve). I went through my camera’s memory card, and below are some hchommish things from the past year that never made it up for one reason or another. There are quite a lot of round, baked food objects. Apparently that’s what I’m into.

My plans for tonight involve watching a documentary about the solar system with my dog. This is not a night to waste on fripperies, people. Get right down to the good stuff.

Cribbers

Look. Brandon and my sister made me an adventurer’s inventory. There may have been some high-pitched noises, it’s hard to say.

Happy cribbers, people!
